## Biography

Edward Williams (1921–2013) was a British composer and electronic music pioneer. He composed the score for the BBC natural history series *Life on Earth* (1979), using a chamber orchestra combined with VCS 3 synthesiser processing, and created the ultrasonic movement-to-MIDI system Soundbeam.

His documentary scores included the Oscar-winning films *Dylan Thomas* (1961) and *Wild Wings* (1965). He also worked on numerous British Transport Films shorts and later series such as *Nature* (1982).
