Dame Eileen Atkins is an English actress and writer. She was born on 16 June 1934 in Clapton, London, and trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Atkins has worked extensively in theatre, film and television since the 1950s. She is known for film roles including Mrs Croft in *Gosford Park* (2001), Maddy in *Cold Mountain* (2003), Madame Kozlova in *Paddington 2* (2017) and Mabel in *Wicked Little Letters* (2024), as well as Queen Mary in the series *The Crown* (2016).

She co-created the television series *Upstairs, Downstairs* (1971–1975) with Jean Marsh and has received three Olivier Awards, a BAFTA and an Emmy. She was appointed DBE in 2001.
