## Biography

Eirene Houston is a Scottish screenwriter and documentary filmmaker. She studied screenwriting at the National Film and Television School, where she also directed the short film *A Stiff Drink* (1996). Her early television work includes an episode of the BBC series *This Life* (1997).

Houston has written episodes of *Always and Everyone* (2001), *Monarch of the Glen* (2005) and *EastEnders* (2008–2009). Her feature screenplay *Day of the Flowers* (2013), set partly in Cuba, marked her first produced feature film. She has directed the documentary *The Cuban Way* and teaches at the International Film and Television School in Havana. She founded the Havana/Glasgow Film Festival and lives in Glasgow.
