## Biography

Eleanor Bergstein is an American writer. Born on 17 April 1938 in Brooklyn, New York, she graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. She began her career as a novelist with *Advancing Paul Newman* (1973) before writing screenplays.

Bergstein wrote the screenplay for *It's My Turn* (1980). She is best known for writing and co-producing *Dirty Dancing* (1987), which drew on her own experiences of dancing in the Catskills. She later adapted the film into the stage musical *Dirty Dancing*, which opened in Australia in 2004.

Her other credits include writing and directing the film *Let It Be Me* (1995).
