Born in Philadelphia, she began her career as a model, gaining national attention as the Eastman Kodak Girl in advertising campaigns. She moved into stage work before entering a nationwide contest that led to a contract with Goldwyn Pictures in 1922. Boardman appeared in more than 30 films between 1922 and 1935. She is best known for her leading role as Mary Sims in King Vidor's *The Crowd* (1928). Other notable credits include *Souls for Sale* (1923), *Bardelys the Magnificent* (1926) and *Show People* (1928). She was one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars of 1923 and later received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Boardman was married to director King Vidor from 1926 until their divorce in 1933.
