## Biography

Elizabeth Hartman (born Mary Elizabeth Hartman, 23 December 1943 – 10 June 1987) was an American actress of stage and screen. She made her film debut in *A Patch of Blue* (1965) as Selina D'Arcey, opposite Sidney Poitier. For the role she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress and won the Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year – Actress.

Her subsequent film credits include *You're a Big Boy Now* (1966), *The Beguiled* (1971) and *Walking Tall* (1973). She voiced the title character in the animated feature *The Secret of NIMH* (1982), her final screen role. Hartman also appeared in several television productions and had a background in theatre.
