## Biography

Ellsworth Fredericks was an American cinematographer whose career spanned more than four decades. He began as an assistant cameraman at First National Studios in 1927 and became a director of photography in the early 1950s. He was a member of the American Society of Cinematographers from 1954.

Fredericks photographed numerous features, including *Invasion of the Body Snatchers* (1956), *Friendly Persuasion* (1956), *Sayonara* (1957) — for which he received an Academy Award nomination — *Wild River* (1960) and *Seven Days in May* (1964). He also contributed to television anthology series such as *Alfred Hitchcock Presents* and *General Electric Theatre*. He retired in 1969.
