## Biography

Emanuel Ungaro (1933–2019) was a French fashion designer who also worked in film costume design. He provided the clothes worn by Gena Rowlands in John Cassavetes' *Gloria* (1980).

Ungaro received other film credits including costume design on *Trompe l'oeil* (1975) and work on *The Trout* (1982) and *Manon 70* (1968). He learned to sew from his father, an Italian tailor, and later worked with designers Cristóbal Balenciaga and André Courrèges.
