## Biography

Emmanuel Machuel is a French cinematographer. He trained at the École Louis-Lumière (1952–1954) and IDHEC (1954–1955). He began working as a camera assistant in 1959 and contributed to films including several by Robert Bresson, before becoming a director of photography in 1975.

Machuel has worked on features such as *L'Argent* (1983), *Van Gogh* (1991), *Ossos* (1997) and *A Talking Picture* (2003). He received a César nomination for best cinematography for *Van Gogh* and the Osella d'Oro for best cinematography at the Venice Film Festival for *Ossos*. He is a member of the Association Française des directeurs de la photographie Cinématographique.
