## Biography

Enrico Sabbatini (1932–1998) was an Italian costume designer and production designer who worked in theatre and cinema. He was born in Spoleto, Perugia, and trained under designers Marcel Escoffier and Giulio Coltellacci.

He is best known for his work on historical epics and biblical productions. Sabbatini designed the costumes for *The Mission* (1986), for which he received a British Academy Film Award and an Academy Award nomination. Other credits include *A Special Day* (1977), *Jesus of Nazareth* (1977), *Sacco & Vanzetti* (1971), *Cutthroat Island* (1995), *Seven Years in Tibet* (1997) and the television miniseries *Cleopatra* (1999). He also contributed production design to several biblical television series.

Sabbatini died in a road accident in Ouarzazate, Morocco, while working on location for *Cleopatra*.
