## Biography

Ercan Kesal is a Turkish actor, scriptwriter, director and physician. He graduated from Ege University medical school in 1984 and worked as a physician before entering film in 2002 with a role in Nuri Bilge Ceylan's *Distant*.

He has collaborated frequently with Ceylan, acting in *Three Monkeys* (2008) and *Once Upon a Time in Anatolia* (2011), for which he also co-wrote the screenplay. The latter received a nomination for Best Screenplay at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards. Other notable acting roles include *Vavien* (2009), *Butterflies* (2018) and the television series *The Pit* (2017). He has also directed and written several films and published books.

Kesal has received acting awards including Best Actor at the Golden Boll Film Festival and the Istanbul Film Festival for *Yozgat Blues* (2013). He has been married to actress Nazan Kesal since 2005.
