## Biography

Eric S. Hatch (also credited as Eric Hatch) was an American novelist and screenwriter. Born in New York City on 31 October 1901, he worked on the staff of *The New Yorker* and published more than twenty-five novels.

His 1935 novel *1101 Park Avenue* (issued as *My Man Godfrey*) provided the basis for the 1936 film *My Man Godfrey*, on which he shared screenplay credit with Morrie Ryskind. He also wrote the screenplay for *Topper* (1937) and contributed to later adaptations of his work, including *The Horse in the Gray Flannel Suit* (1968).

Hatch died in Torrington, Connecticut, on 4 July 1973.
