## Biography

Erich Pommer, also credited as Eric Pommer, was a German film producer. He was born on 20 July 1889 in Hildesheim, Germany, and died on 8 May 1966 in Los Angeles.

He entered the film industry with Gaumont in Berlin and Paris, then founded Decla Film in 1915. The company merged into Decla-Bioskop and was later absorbed by UFA. As head of production at these companies from the early 1920s, he oversaw films including *The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari* (1920), *Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler* (1922), *The Last Laugh* (1924), *Faust* (1926) and *Metropolis* (1927).

Pommer left UFA in 1926 and worked in Hollywood and Britain, where he produced *Jamaica Inn* (1939). He returned to Germany after the Second World War to help reorganise the film industry.
