## Biography

Ernest Cline is an American novelist and screenwriter. He was born on 29 March 1972 in Ashland, Ohio.

Cline co-wrote the screenplay for the 2009 film *Fanboys*. His debut novel *Ready Player One* was published in 2011; he co-wrote the screenplay for its 2018 film adaptation directed by Steven Spielberg. He has also written the novels *Armada* (2015) and *Ready Player Two* (2020).

Before publishing fiction, Cline worked in information technology and performed as a slam poet, winning the Austin Poetry Slam in 1998 and 2001.
