## Biography

Ernest Dryden, also known as Ernst Dryden or Ernst Deutsch-Dryden, was an Austrian costume designer and graphic artist. Born in Vienna in 1887, he trained at the Vienna School of Applied Arts and began his career as a commercial artist and poster designer in Berlin before the First World War. After the war he returned to Vienna, where he worked as a fashion designer for Kniže & Comp. and founded his own studio under the name Dryden.

Dryden emigrated to the United States in 1933 and moved to Hollywood the following year. He designed costumes for several films, including *The Garden of Allah* (1936), *Lost Horizon* (1937) and *The Prisoner of Zenda* (1937). He died in Los Angeles in 1938.
