## Biography

Ernest Irving (1878–1953) was an English music director, conductor and composer. He began his career as a theatre musician in London and became music director at Ealing Studios in the early 1930s, a position he held until his death.

At Ealing he composed original scores and arranged music for numerous films, including the comedies *Kind Hearts and Coronets* (1949), *Whisky Galore!* (1949) and *A Run for Your Money* (1949). He also conducted and arranged scores by other composers such as Vaughan Williams and secured contributions from figures including John Ireland and William Walton.
