## Biography

Ernest J. Nims was an American film editor and producer. He was born on 15 November 1908 in Des Moines, Iowa, and died on 28 April 2000 in Los Angeles, California. He was married to Geraldine Kirby.

Nims worked as an editor on numerous Hollywood films from the 1930s onwards, including *Fatal Lady* (1936), *It Could Happen to You* (1937), *Flying Tigers* (1942), *In Old Oklahoma* (1943), *The Dark Mirror* (1946), *Tomorrow Is Forever* (1946) and *The Stranger* (1946). He later served as assistant editor on *Touch of Evil* (1958) and held roles as associate producer on television series such as *Rawhide* and *Gunslinger*.

He was head of post-production at Universal and a friend of Orson Welles. Nims cut more than 30 pages from the script of *The Stranger* before filming.
