## Biography

Ernest Thompson is an American writer, actor and director. He wrote the play *On Golden Pond*, which opened off-Broadway in 1978 before transferring to Broadway in 1979. He adapted it for the screen, and the 1981 film starred Katharine Hepburn and Henry Fonda.

Thompson won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for the film, as well as a Golden Globe and a Writers Guild of America award. He directed the feature *1969* (1988). He graduated from American University in 1971 and has written numerous other plays and screenplays.
