## Biography

Ernst Reijseger (born 13 November 1954) is a Dutch cellist and composer. He specialises in avant-garde jazz, improvised music and contemporary classical music, and often performs solo. He began playing the cello at the age of eight and has collaborated with musicians including Derek Bailey, Han Bennink, Misha Mengelberg, Gerry Hemingway, Yo-Yo Ma, Louis Sclavis and Mola Sylla, as well as groups such as the Clusone Trio and ICP Orchestra.

Reijseger has composed music for several films by Werner Herzog, including *The White Diamond* (2004), *The Wild Blue Yonder* (2005), *My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done* (2009), *Cave of Forgotten Dreams* (2010), *Salt and Fire* (2016) and *Walking Out* (2017). He received the Boy-Edgar-Preis in 1985 and the Bird Award at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 1995.
