## Biography

Erol Afşin is a Turkish actor who works primarily in German-language productions. Born in Adana, Turkey, in 1989, he moved to Germany at the age of 18. His first stage appearance was in the 2010/11 season at Ballhaus Naunynstraße in Nurkan Erpulat’s *Verrücktes Blut*, which later toured and won the 2011 Theatre Today award for best German-language play. He trained at the Folkwang University of the Arts from 2011 and studied briefly at the State Conservatory in Istanbul in 2013/14.

Afşin’s screen debut came in the 2011 Australian short *The Palace*. He played Osman in the 2015 film *Mustang*, which premiered at Cannes and received an Academy Award nomination for best foreign language film. Other notable roles include Utku in the fifth season of *Homeland* (2015), appearances in *Saf* (2018) and *Girls of the Sun* (2018), and the lead in the 2021 series *Wir*. In 2023 he made his feature directorial debut with *Es brennt*, which he also wrote and produced; the film premiered at Filmfest München.
