## Biography

Esmé Percy, also credited as S. Esme Percy or Saville Esmé Percy, was an English actor and director. Born in London on 8 August 1887, he died in Brighton on 17 June 1957. He trained in Paris with Sarah Bernhardt and made his stage debut in 1904. He performed with companies including those of F. R. Benson, William Poel and Herbert Beerbohm Tree, and became closely associated with the plays of George Bernard Shaw, appearing in and directing many of them on stage and radio.

Percy appeared in around forty films between 1930 and 1956, often in supporting or character roles. His credits include Handel Fane in *Murder!* (1930), Count Aristid Karpathy in *Pygmalion* (1938), the Antique Dealer in the "Haunted Mirror" segment of *Dead of Night* (1945), and the Major Domo in *Caesar and Cleopatra* (1945). He also worked in radio drama and occasional television productions.
