## Biography

Ève Curie was a French and American writer, journalist and pianist. Born in Paris on 6 December 1904, she was the younger daughter of physicists Marie and Pierre Curie and the sister of Irène Joliot-Curie. She trained as a pianist and worked as a music critic and journalist for French publications before turning to biography.

After her mother’s death in 1934, Curie wrote the international bestseller *Madame Curie* (1937), a biography that won the National Book Award for Non-Fiction in the United States. The book was adapted into the 1943 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film of the same name, for which she received a writing credit. She later published *Journey Among Warriors* (1943), based on her wartime reporting.

During the Second World War she served with the Free French forces and received the Croix de Guerre. In later decades she worked with UNICEF and as a diplomat; she married Henry Richardson Labouisse in 1954. Curie died in New York on 22 October 2007.
