## Biography

Evelyn Ankers was a British-American actress. Born in Valparaíso, Chile, to British parents on 17 August 1918, she was educated at schools including the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

She began appearing in British films in the mid-1930s, including *Fire Over England* (1937). After moving to the United States in 1940 she signed with Universal Pictures and appeared in numerous horror films of the 1940s, among them *The Wolf Man* (1941) as Gwen Conliffe, *The Ghost of Frankenstein* (1942), *Son of Dracula* (1943), *Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Terror* (1942) and *The Pearl of Death* (1944). She married actor Richard Denning in 1942, became a US citizen in 1946 and retired from feature films around 1950.
