Everett McGill is an American actor. Born on 21 October 1945 in Miami Beach, Florida, he trained at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and began his career on Broadway, appearing in productions including *Equus* (1974), *A Texas Trilogy* (1976) and *Whose Life Is It Anyway?* (1980). He received a Drama Desk Award nomination for his work in *A Texas Trilogy*.

McGill is known for film roles such as Naoh in *Quest for Fire* (1981), Stilgar in *Dune* (1984), Major Malcolm A. Powers in *Heartbreak Ridge* (1986), Ed Killifer in *Licence to Kill* (1989) and the Man in *The People Under the Stairs* (1991). On television he played Big Ed Hurley in the series *Twin Peaks* (1990–1991). He retired from acting in 1999 but returned to reprise the role in the 2017 revival series.
