## Biography

Faredoon A. Irani was an Indian cinematographer who worked in Hindi films. He collaborated extensively with director Mehboob Khan, shooting his films from the mid-1930s onwards, including *Anmol Ghadi* (1946), *Andaz* (1949), *Aan* (1952), *Amar* (1954) and *Mother India* (1957).

Irani won the Filmfare Award for Best Cinematographer twice, for *Mother India* (1958) and *Duniya* (1970). On 2 August 1953 he presided over the meeting in Mumbai that led to the formation of the Western India Cinematographers' Association. His career spanned more than forty years.
