## Biography

Felix Mendelssohn was a German composer, pianist, organist and conductor of the early Romantic period. Born in Hamburg in 1809, he composed symphonies, concertos, piano and chamber music, and oratorios including *St. Paul* and *Elijah*.

Mendelssohn wrote an overture and incidental music for Shakespeare's *A Midsummer Night's Dream* in the 1820s and 1840s. His music from the play, along with other works, was used in the 1935 Warner Bros. film adaptation directed by Max Reinhardt, re-orchestrated by Erich Wolfgang Korngold.
