## Biography

Fergus McDonell (6 October 1910 – 3 January 1984) was an English film editor and director. He was educated at Sedbergh School and began working in the film industry in the late 1930s.

As an editor he is credited on *The Way Ahead* (1944), *Odd Man Out* (1947) – for which he received an Academy Award nomination – *What's New Pussycat?* (1965) and *Khartoum* (1966). He also directed three features: *The Small Voice* (1948), which was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best British Film, *Prelude to Fame* (1950) and *Private Information* (1952).

In 1951 McDonell moved to Canada, where he edited and later directed documentaries for the National Film Board. He returned to the United Kingdom and continued editing feature films until the early 1970s.
