## Biography

Fernanda Gattinoni was an Italian fashion designer and costume designer. She left Italy at the age of 17 to apprentice at the Molineaux fashion house in London. She returned to Italy in 1930 and later worked as head of the creative department for the Ventura atelier before founding her own atelier in Rome in 1946.

Gattinoni designed costumes for several films in the 1950s, including *Europa '51* (1952) and *Journey to Italy* (1954). She received an Academy Award nomination for Best Costume Design for her work on *War and Peace* (1956). Her designs were worn by actresses such as Ingrid Bergman and Audrey Hepburn, both on screen and for their personal wardrobes.
