## Biography

Fernando Ghia (22 July 1935 – 1 June 2005) was an Italian film and television producer. Born in Rome, he trained as an actor at the Accademia Nazionale d'Arte Drammatica Silvio D'Amico and began his career in the late 1950s, working briefly as an actor before becoming a talent agent with the William Morris Agency.

Ghia partnered with producer Franco Cristaldi and later produced films including *The Red Tent* (1969), on which he served as associate producer, and *Lady Caroline Lamb* (1972). He spent over a decade developing *The Mission* (1986), written by Robert Bolt and directed by Roland Joffé, which he co-produced with David Puttnam. The film won the Palme d'Or at Cannes and received seven Academy Award nominations.

He founded Pixit Productions in Rome and produced the television miniseries *Nostromo* (1997). Ghia collaborated frequently with composer Ennio Morricone and was married to actress Gaia De Laurentiis; they had a son.
