He studied cello at conservatories in Getxo, Bilbao and Vitoria, winning the Extraordinary Prize on completion of his studies, and continued his training in Madrid and Paris. He is best known for his long collaboration with director J. A. Bayona, scoring *The Orphanage* (2007), *The Impossible* (2012) and *A Monster Calls* (2016), the last of which won him the Goya Award for Best Original Score.
