## Biography

Florence Roberts was an American actress who appeared on stage and in motion pictures. She began her career in the theatre in the 1880s, performing in New York and later heading her own stock company based in Philadelphia.

Roberts entered films in the early 1930s and became known for character roles, often as grandmothers or elderly women. She is best remembered as Granny Jones in the Jones Family series of comedies produced by 20th Century Fox between 1936 and 1940. Among her other credits are *Babes in Toyland* (1934), *Les Misérables* (1935) as Toussaint, *The Life of Emile Zola* (1937) and *Cleopatra* (1934).

She was married to actor Walter Gale.
