## Biography

Floyd Crosby was an American cinematographer. He won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography for his debut feature, *Tabu: A Story of the South Seas* (1931).

Crosby shot *High Noon* (1952) for director Fred Zinnemann and won a Golden Globe for the black-and-white cinematography. From the mid-1950s he became the regular director of photography for Roger Corman, working on more than twenty films including *House of Usher* (1960), *The Pit and the Pendulum* (1961), *The Raven* (1963) and *X: The Man with the X-Ray Eyes* (1963).

He also photographed *The Old Man and the Sea* (1958) and earlier documentaries such as *The River* (1937). Crosby served as a cinematographer with the US Army Air Corps during the Second World War before returning to feature work.
