## Biography

Forrest Meredith Tucker (12 February 1919 – 25 October 1986) was an American actor who appeared in nearly a hundred films and numerous television series. Born in Plainfield, Indiana, he began performing as a teenager, working in burlesque and vaudeville before making his screen debut in *The Westerner* (1940).

Tucker served in the United States Army during the Second World War. After the war he resumed his career with roles including Lem Forrester in *The Yearling* (1946). He became known for Westerns such as *Sands of Iwo Jima* (1950) and *Chisum* (1970), and later for his stage work, including a long national tour of *The Music Man*.

On television he played Sergeant Morgan O'Rourke in the sitcom *F Troop* (1965–1967) and appeared in episodes of *Columbo*, *Bonanza*, *Kojak* and *Murder, She Wrote*. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1986.
