## Biography

Fosco Giachetti (28 March 1900 – 22 December 1974) was an Italian actor. He was born in Sesto Fiorentino, Tuscany, and died in Rome.

Giachetti appeared in numerous films from the 1930s onwards. He played leading roles in Fascist-era productions including *Lo squadrone bianco* (1936), *L'assedio dell'Alcazar* (1940) and *Bengasi* (1942), for which he received the Coppa Volpi for best actor at the Venice Film Festival. He also co-starred in *Noi Vivi* and *Addio Kira!* (both 1942).

After the Second World War he returned to the stage and took supporting parts in later films such as *Il mattatore* (1960), *The Damned* (1947) and *The Conformist* (1970), in which he played the Colonel. He also appeared in television adaptations including *La cittadella* (1964).
