## Biography

Frances Dee was an American actress. Born Frances Marion Dee in Los Angeles, she began her career as a film extra in 1929 and gained her breakthrough with a leading role opposite Maurice Chevalier in the musical *Playboy of Paris* (1930).

She appeared in more than fifty films, including *An American Tragedy* (1931), *Little Women* (1933) as Meg, *Of Human Bondage* (1934) and *I Walked with a Zombie* (1943) as Betsy Connell. Dee retired from acting in the mid-1950s. She was married to actor Joel McCrea from 1933 until his death in 1990.
