## Biography

Frances Langford (born Julia Frances Newbern Langford, 4 April 1913 – 11 July 2005) was an American singer and actress. She appeared in films from the mid-1930s onwards and was active in radio during the Golden Age of Radio.

She made her screen debut in *Every Night at Eight* (1935) and appeared as herself in *Broadway Melody of 1936* (1935). Other film credits include *Born to Dance* (1936), *Yankee Doodle Dandy* (1942) and *The Glenn Miller Story* (1954). On radio she performed regularly with Bob Hope and, from 1946 to 1951, co-starred with Don Ameche in the comedy series *The Bickersons*.

During the Second World War Langford toured extensively with Hope to entertain US troops overseas.
