## Biography

Francis D. Lyon (also credited as Francis Lyon) was an American film and television director and editor. Born in Bowbells, North Dakota, he attended UCLA before beginning his career as an editor in England. He returned to the United States and worked as an editor or supervising editor on numerous films from the 1930s to the 1950s.

Lyon shared the Academy Award for Best Film Editing with Robert Parrish for *Body and Soul* (1947). His editing credits include *Things to Come* (1936), *Rembrandt* (1936) and *Intermezzo* (1939). He began directing feature films in the mid-1950s, with credits including *The Great Locomotive Chase* (1956) and *The Oklahoman* (1957), and directed episodes of series such as *Perry Mason*. He co-founded United Pictures Corporation in 1966 and published the memoir *Twists of Fate: An Oscar Winner's International Career* in 1993. He retired from the industry in 1970 and died in Green Valley, Arizona.
