## Biography

Franco Diogene (born Concetto Francesco Diogene) was an Italian actor and comedian. Born on 20 October 1947 in Catania, Sicily, he moved with his family to Genoa at the age of five. He began acting in a parish theatre there and later appeared in numerous Italian films from the early 1970s onwards, often in character and comedic roles.

Diogene had roles in several international productions, including *Midnight Express* (1978) as Yesil and *The Name of the Rose* (1986) as a papal envoy. Other credits include *The Big Blue* (1988), *City of Women* (1980) and *The Stendhal Syndrome* (1996). He was also active as a stand-up comedian. He was married to Mariella Denari and died in Genoa in May 2005.
