## Biography

François de Lamothe (1928–2011) was a French production designer and art director. He trained at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts and the IDHEC, and began working as an assistant decorator before receiving his first full production design credit on *Pierrot la tendresse* (1960).

He contributed to more than eighty films, including *Cartouche* (1962), *Le Samouraï* (1967), *Hibernatus* (1969), *Borsalino* (1970), *The Magnificent One* (1973) and *Les Misérables* (1982). He was nominated four times for the César Award for Best Production Design. De Lamothe also designed sets for around fifty theatre productions.
