## Biography

Françoise Bonnot (17 August 1939 – 9 June 2018) was a French film editor. Born in Bois-Colombes, Hauts-de-Seine, she was the daughter of film editor Monique Bonnot. Her early credits include assisting her mother on Jean-Pierre Melville's *Two Men in Manhattan* (1959) and co-editing Henri Verneuil's *A Monkey in Winter* (1962).

Bonnot edited Melville's *Army of Shadows* (1969) and began a long collaboration with Costa-Gavras on *Z* (1969), for which she won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing. Their partnership continued on eight further films over nearly thirty years, including *Missing* (1982), for which she received a BAFTA Award for Best Editing.

She edited more than forty feature films, among them Roman Polanski's *The Tenant* (1976), Michael Cimino's *Year of the Dragon* (1985) and Ridley Scott's *1492: Conquest of Paradise* (1992). Later credits include four films directed by Julie Taymor: *Titus* (1999), *Frida* (2002), *Across the Universe* (2007) and *The Tempest* (2010).
