## Biography

Frank S. Nugent was an American screenwriter and former film critic. He began his career as a reporter and film reviewer for The New York Times, writing nearly a thousand reviews before moving to Hollywood in 1940 as a script doctor.

He wrote 21 feature screenplays, eleven of them for director John Ford. His credits include *Fort Apache* (1948), *She Wore a Yellow Ribbon* (1949), *Wagon Master* (1950), *The Quiet Man* (1952), *Mister Roberts* (1955) and *The Searchers* (1956). Nugent received an Academy Award nomination for adapted screenplay for *The Quiet Man* and won two Writers Guild of America Awards for best written American comedy, for *The Quiet Man* and *Mister Roberts*.
