Frankie Howerd, born Francis Alick Howard, was an English comedian and comic actor. He was born in York on 6 March 1917 and died in London on 19 April 1992.

Howerd appeared as the barrow boy in *The Ladykillers* (1955). He is known for his roles in the Carry On series, including Mr Francis Bigger in *Carry On Doctor* (1967) and Professor Inigo Tinkle in *Carry On Up the Jungle* (1970), and as Lurcio in *Up Pompeii* (1971). He was appointed OBE in 1977.
