## Biography

Franklyn Ajaye is an American stand-up comedian, actor and writer. He was born on 13 May 1949 in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Los Angeles. He began performing stand-up in the early 1970s and released comedy albums from 1973 onwards.

Ajaye has appeared in films including *Car Wash* (1976), *Convoy* (1978), *Stir Crazy* (1980), *The 'Burbs* (1989) and *Bridesmaids* (2011). On television he has acted in *Deadwood* (2004–2006) and *Deadwood: The Movie* (2019) as Samuel Fields. His writing credits include episodes of *In Living Color*, *The Parent 'Hood*, *Roc*, *Politically Incorrect* and *NYPD Blue* (1995).

He received Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Writing in a Variety or Music Program for *In Living Color* in 1990 and *Politically Incorrect* in 1997. Ajaye is the author of the book *Comic Insights: The Art of Standup Comedy*. He moved to Melbourne, Australia, in 1997.
