## Biography

Franz Geiger (1921–2011) was a German screenwriter, director and actor. Born in Munich, he studied Romance languages, art history and theatre studies at the University of Munich. In the late 1940s he worked as a dramaturg and assistant director at theatres in Munich and Paris, and translated plays by Jean Anouilh while also writing his own stage works.

From the 1950s he wrote screenplays for numerous films and television series, often contributing to adaptations and rewrites. His credits include the 1955 film *Lola Montès* (as co-author for the German version), as well as series such as *Münchner Geschichten*, *Polizeiinspektion 1* and *Monaco Franze*, in which he also acted and directed episodes. He received the München leuchtet medal in 1991 and the Ernst-Hoferichter-Preis in 1996, and was an honorary member of the Verband Deutscher Drehbuchautoren.
