## Biography

Franz Paul Koch (also credited as Franz Koch) was a German cinematographer. Born on 1 September 1898 in Munich, he began working in the film industry in 1913 at the production company of Peter Ostermayr. He made his debut as chief cameraman in 1920 for the Emelka studio and collaborated frequently with directors Franz Osten and Franz Seitz on Munich productions.

Koch photographed numerous silent films, Ganghofer adaptations, comedies and dramas. He worked on the propaganda films *SA-Mann Brand* (1933) and Leni Riefenstahl's *Triumph of the Will* (1935). From 1937 to 1941 he was cameraman on all films starring Hans Albers, later collaborating with Hans Schweikart until the end of the war.

After the war Koch remained active, shooting further Ganghofer adaptations, Heimatfilme and comedies. He also appeared as an actor in two films and directed and wrote the short *Lied der Landstraße* (1950). He died on 28 April 1959 in Munich.
