## Biography

Arlington Valles, also credited as Fred Valles or Valles, was a British-born Hollywood costume designer. He worked primarily at MGM, heading the men's wardrobe department, and specialised in period and men's costumes.

Valles began his screen career with costumes for the 1938 version of *A Christmas Carol*. His credits include *National Velvet* (1944), *The Picture of Dorian Gray* (1945), *The Yearling* (1946) and *That Forsyte Woman* (1949), for which he received an Academy Award nomination. He shared the 1961 Oscar for Best Costume Design, Colour, with Bill Thomas for his final film, *Spartacus* (1960).

He died in Los Angeles on 12 April 1970.
