## Biography

Frederick Loewe (1901–1988) was a German-born American composer best known for his collaborations with lyricist and librettist Alan Jay Lerner. Born in Berlin, he was a child prodigy who studied piano and composition before emigrating to the United States in 1924.

Loewe and Lerner created the scores for the Broadway musicals *Brigadoon* (1947), *Paint Your Wagon* (1951), *My Fair Lady* (1956) and *Camelot* (1960), as well as the original film musical *Gigi* (1958) and the film *The Little Prince* (1974). *My Fair Lady* and *Gigi* both received major awards, including Academy Awards for the latter.
