## Biography

Frederick Stephani (1903–1962) was a German-born screenwriter, director and producer who worked in Hollywood. He emigrated to the United States in 1923 and later became a US citizen. His early screenwriting credits include the 1931 film *Dracula*.

Stephani is best known for co-writing and directing the 1936 Universal serial *Flash Gordon*. He also wrote the story for the 1947 film *It Happened on Fifth Avenue*, for which he received an Academy Award nomination for best original story. He continued to write, direct and produce feature films and television episodes until the early 1960s.
