## Biography

Fuji Yahiro (real name Minoru Yahiro) was a Japanese screenwriter. He began writing screenplays in 1927 at Shōzō Makino’s Makino Film Productions after leaving Meiji University. He worked at several studios including Kawai, Shinkō Kinema and Daiei before becoming a freelance writer after the Second World War, contributing to films across the major Japanese studios.

He is credited on the screenplay for *Sansho the Bailiff* (1954), directed by Kenji Mizoguchi and based on a story by Mori Ōgai. Yahiro wrote or co-wrote more than 150 screenplays, many in the chanbara and jidaigeki genres, including *Bloody Spear at Mount Fuji* (1955) and *The Snow Woman* (1968). He participated in group writing projects under a shared pen name in the mid-1950s and received the Order of the Rising Sun in 1975. He retired in 1969.
