## Biography

Gabriel Gabrio, born Édouard Gabriel Lelièvre, was a French stage and film actor. He made his screen debut in the 1920 silent film *La fête espagnole* and appeared in around 38 films until the early 1940s. His early career included extensive stage work in Paris theatres after an interest in puppet theatre as a child and service in the First World War.

He is known for roles including Jean Valjean in the 1925 adaptation of *Les Misérables*, Sulphart in *Wooden Crosses* (1932), Cesare Borgia in *Lucrèce Borgia* (1935), Carlos in *Pépé le Moko* (1937), Panturle in *Harvest* (1937) and the Executioner in *The Devil's Envoys* (1942). He died in 1946.
